Coffee and Chicory Ratios: Reading a Filter-Coffee Packet

Read the two numbers with their labels
A ratio is only useful when you know what each number names. As a concrete example, Cothas's Speciality Blend page identifies an 85:15 coffee-to-chicory blend. In that description, the larger share is coffee and the smaller share chicory. This manufacturer example explains a label; it is not a claim that the product is currently stocked by Lalkila.
Do not interpret the ratio as a cup recipe or caffeine percentage. It describes the dry blend in the named product. Your cup also depends on how much powder you use, the brewing method, the water and any milk added afterwards. Keep those variables separate when comparing two packets.
Check the format before choosing a ratio
Look for whether the item is ground filter coffee, instant coffee or a ready-made decoction. Read its brewing directions rather than putting every product through the same equipment. A familiar brand name may appear across several formats.
For a useful home comparison, use the same filter, powder measure, water and milk with each suitable blend. Note the packet and ratio next to the result. Change one variable at a time if you want to learn what produced the flavour you preferred. This is a household comparison, not a laboratory quality test.
Buy for your actual routine
A smaller pack can be useful while establishing what you like. Check the ingredient statement, grind or preparation directions, net weight and storage advice. Once opened, keep the original label or a photograph so you can identify the same blend again.
Avoid treating one ratio as the authentic choice for every South Indian household. Family preferences and routines vary. A clear shopping note such as “ground filter blend, coffee/chicory ratio as labelled, brewed with this filter” is more repeatable than simply asking for the strongest coffee.
